No Ebola Case in India Yet, Says Centre as Bengaluru Traveler Kept Under Isolation

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is closely monitoring the evolving Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) situation following recent outbreaks reported in parts of Africa. Government sources confirmed on Wednesday that while health authorities are on high alert, there are currently no confirmed cases of Ebola anywhere in India. Exercising abundant caution, health officials have placed a 28-year-old female traveler with a recent travel history from Uganda under isolation at the state-run Epidemic Diseases Hospital in Bengaluru. The individual, who reported mild symptoms of body ache, is otherwise in a stable and healthy condition. Local authorities have collected diagnostic samples and sent them to the ICMR-National Institute of Virology (NIV) for laboratory testing, with results currently awaited.

Precautionary Isolation in Bengaluru

According to Karnataka state health officials, the individual arrived in India from Uganda via Ahmedabad before traveling to Bengaluru. While she did not present obvious symptoms like fever during initial airport health screenings, surveillance teams continued tracking her due to her travel history from an Ebola-affected region. "The District Surveillance team and airport health officials were tracking her condition. She developed a mild body ache nearly 24 hours later, following which samples were collected," stated Dr. Anil Kumar Banagar, District Surgeon and Medical Superintendent of the Epidemic Diseases Hospital. Officials noted that even if the initial test returns negative, a mandatory repeat test will be performed after 48 hours of observation as part of the standard safety protocol. The Ministry of Health, in strict coordination with state health departments, has intensified surveillance at all international airports and points of entry.
