Fortunately, nobody was injured in the incident, as the tenant occupying the flat had stepped out of the room just minutes before the plaster came crashing down, according to a Jagran report. Visuals of the incident, showing the bed piled high with chunks of concrete, broken plaster and dust, have since gone widely viral on social media, triggering panic among residents and renewed debate over building safety standards in Noida.
Incident Took Place In Tower C-2
According to the Jagran report, the incident occurred in flat number 1814 in Tower C-2 of the Gardenia Gateway society. The flat's owner, Rakesh Khokar, had rented out the apartment to tenants. On learning about the collapse, Khokar sent builders to repair the damage, but angry residents of the society turned them away, demanding a full inspection of the entire complex instead. Residents Question Construction Quality
The visuals of the collapse sparked outrage and panic on social media, with several residents and users raising questions over the materials and construction standards used in the building. One user wrote, "The whole building must be demolished and the people should be compensated. Look at the generous amount of rebar used." Another suggested a lack of cover blocks and poor quality cement, along with possible seepage, as likely causes behind the collapse. 'Quality Is Compromised,' Say Users
X user Sumar Kumar pointed out a gap in steel distribution without any beam slab, adding that quality appeared to be compromised. Another user alleged a lack of oversight in construction, claiming subcontractors often carry out work without proper supervision from contractors or engineers, allowing corruption to creep in.
'Flats Have Become Death Traps,' Warn Users
Several social media users went on to claim that flats in Noida have increasingly become unsafe and urged others to avoid investing in under-construction or new properties in the region. X user Gopi Issar called it "a death trap," while another user, Divya Gandotra Tandon, opined that investing in flats in 2026 was inadvisable given the declining reliability of construction quality.
