According to the complaint filed by Rai's wife, the couple had gone out to get a birthday cake for him. Rai was crossing the road while carrying the cake when the car hit him, she said.

He reportedly sustained fractures in his legs, arms and spine. He is said to be undergoing treatment in the ICU. The incident has drawn attention because the CCTV footage shows the collision and its immediate aftermath.

The Gurugram accused was identified as Kalyan Bainsla, 33. Police arrested Bainsla on Tuesday after a two-day search. He faces charges including attempt to murder and stalking, according to the information provided.

His Maruti Suzuki Ciaz was also seized. The two incidents are separate cases, but both have renewed attention on speeding and road safety in the Delhi-NCR region.
