New Delhi, Sep 25: More than 1000 patients availed benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana in less than 24 hours of Prime Minister Narendra Modi launching the mega healthcare scheme on Sunday. Maximum patients treated under 'Modicare' were from Chhattisgarh and Haryana, followed by Jharkhand, Assam and Madhya Pradesh, reports Times of India.

On the inaugural day of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, also known as Ayushman Bharat, at least four patients were treated under the healthcare scheme at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi. With its rollout, the 'Modicare' scheme made around 2.65 lakh beds available for patients for beneficiaries in more than 10,000 government and private hospitals. Ayushman Bharat: Key Facts to Know About PM Modi's 'Game-Changing' PMJAY Healthcare Scheme.

The National Health Agency (NHA), responsible for implementing the scheme, has identified 98 per cent of the beneficiaries and is busy sending them a letter from the Prime Minister to each of them. These letters contain a QR code and other details of the identified family. After receiving the letter, a patient can avail benefits provided under the scheme at recognised government and private hospitals. 19-day-old Karishma Becomes First Beneficiary of Ayushman Bharat, Gets Celebrity Status.

Arogya Mitras or trained facilitators at selected hospitals will scan these letters to verify beneficiaries and provide them with healthcare services. The NHA has dispatched over 40 lakhs such letters. The scheme aims to cover ten crore households, falling at the bottom of the socio-economic census of 2011. It will include health expenses for upto Rs 5 lakh per year.
