What Happened
The woman, identified as Kunti Devi, wife of Dilkhush Mogya and a resident of Biloli village under the Malarna Dungar sub-division, was brought to the Malarna Station PHC by her family after she went into labour. On arrival, they found the hospital's main gate locked, with no doctor, nurse or ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife) on duty. With the woman in pain and no other option available, female relatives who had accompanied her helped deliver the baby on the floor of the hospital premises itself. Administration Takes Strict Action
Taking note of the severity of the incident, District Collector Shubham Chaudhary ordered immediate action. Dr Sachin Sharma, the medical officer in charge of the PHC, was suspended, while ANM Kiran Kumari, who was found absent from duty, was placed under Awaiting Posting Orders (APO).
A three-member committee headed by the CEO of the Zila Parishad has also been constituted to investigate the circumstances of the incident and determine accountability.
Questions Raised Over Rural Healthcare System
The incident has once again raised questions about the ground-level functioning of government health centres in rural Rajasthan. Complaints of absent doctors and staff at rural health facilities have surfaced repeatedly in the past, and this case has brought renewed attention to the issue. Pressure on the local administration to act grew significantly after the video of the incident began circulating widely online.
