The Delhi High Court on Friday upheld the conviction of Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav in multiple cheque bounce cases, sentencing him to three months of simple imprisonment. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma dismissed the petitions filed by the actor and others that challenged a previous trial court judgment.

The verdict resolves a batch of criminal miscellaneous and revision petitions arising from proceedings under the Negotiable Instruments Act. The legal battle involved seven distinct cheque bounce cases filed against the actor by M/s Murli Projects Private Limited. The High Court ordered that the three-month prison sentences for all seven cases will run concurrently. In addition to the prison term, the court directed Yadav to pay ₹1.05 crore in each of the seven cases. His wife, Radha Rajpal Yadav, was also ordered to pay a fine exceeding ₹5 crore per case. While pronouncing the judgment, Justice Sharma noted that Yadav had been given multiple opportunities and extensions to honour settlement terms and repay the complainant but consistently failed to do so.

The High Court's final decision follows months of deliberation after the court reserved its verdict on April 2. The bench had previously extended an interim suspension of Yadav's sentence after noting he had paid approximately ₹4.25 crore to the complainant company. However, the court ultimately observed that his repeated assurances and undertakings to clear the remaining amounts were not fulfilled. ‘Mere Paas Paise Nahin Hain’: Rajpal Yadav Breaks Down Before Surrendering in Cheque Bounce Case; Delhi High Court Rejects Further Relief.

Yadav was originally sentenced to six months of imprisonment by a sessions court in May 2024. Although he briefly surrendered to jail authorities in February 2026 before obtaining an interim suspension, the high court ruled that his failure to clear the remaining balance necessitated the execution of the sentence. The court has granted Yadav a two-month window to appeal the decision before a higher court.
