According to transit and emergency officials, the driver first noticed smoke and flames originating from the vehicle mid-journey.
Acting quickly, the driver pulled the vehicle over and immediately alerted the passengers. Thanks to the prompt warning, everyone on board managed to disembark before the fire completely engulfed the vehicle. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, but the intense flames completely destroyed the multi-million rupee state transport bus. Local fire officials confirmed that while the property damage is severe, the timely actions of the crew prevented any loss of life. An official investigation has been launched by TGSRTC and local authorities to determine the exact cause of the fire, focusing primarily on potential technical glitches or electrical short circuits in the vehicle's battery systems.
The incident adds to a growing list of vehicular fires on Telangana highways. Last month, on May 30, a private travel bus carrying passengers from Hyderabad to Andhra Pradesh was similarly gutted by fire on the Vijayawada National Highway near Chityal Mandal. Much like Sunday's incident, the passengers in that case were able to escape just in time after spotting the blaze at around 3:00 AM.
