On Wednesday afternoon, a large number of devotees and pilgrims arrived at the Mahakal Temple for darshan. Meanwhile, some pilgrims, instead of following the prescribed darshan procedures, began heading towards the Nandi Hall. Security personnel attempted to stop them and maintain order, TV9 Hindi reported.
It is alleged that the pilgrims, angered by the obstruction, entered the Nandi Hall and attempted to proceed towards the sanctum sanctorum. Security personnel prevented them from proceeding further, leading to a dispute between the two sides. According to temple sources, during the commotion, some people broke the barricades in the Nandi Hall. Furthermore, they are alleged to have moved the barricades and donation boxes that had been set up for security. They then attempted to enter the sanctum sanctorum unauthorisedly.
As the situation escalated, temple security personnel attempted to stop them. During this time, the security personnel were subjected to abusive behavior and physical assault.
One security guard suffered a serious head injury during the altercation. Several other security personnel were also injured. The incident briefly caused chaos within the temple complex. Security staff had to exercise extra vigilance to maintain security.
Sources within the Mahakaleshwar Temple management described the incident as serious. They stated that some miscreants attempted to disrupt the temple's security and darshan arrangements.
