Vineet Manocha Murder: Why Did Son Subrat Allegedly Plan His Father’s Murder and Frame Wife?

The son of Kanpur pharmaceutical dealer Vineet Manocha has been arrested for allegedly conspiring to kill his father over fears that the 60-year-old businessman could transfer his property to another woman, police said. Subrat Manocha was arrested on Wednesday night and sent to judicial custody on Thursday.

Vineet Manocha, who ran a pharmaceutical firm with his son, was found dead at his Ratan Orbit apartment in Kanpur's Kalyanpur area on September 5. His throat had been slit and he was alone at home when the alleged murder took place.

According to police, Subrat told investigators that his father had relationships with several women and he feared that Vineet Manocha could start living with another woman and transfer his property to her.

Police said Subrat had also accumulated debts of more than INR 40 lakh through gambling and IPL betting. His father reportedly gave him around INR 40,000 every month for expenses, while Subrat was paying approximately INR 55,000 a month towards loan instalments.

Subrat Manocha Allegedly Promised INR 6 Lakh

Police said former family employee Vishal Gautam told investigators that Subrat had asked him to kill his father and allegedly promised him INR 6 lakh.

Vishal had obtained a new SIM card a few days before the murder and allegedly made his first call from the number to Subrat. Investigators also recovered deleted chats between the two and found that their locations had coincided at several points before the murder.

Shalu Manocha Yet To Get Clean Chit

Police had initially arrested Shalu Manocha along with Vishal and Rajkishore in connection with Vineet Manocha's murder. However, the subsequent investigation has raised questions over the allegations against her.

Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal said investigators have so far not found sufficient corroborating evidence establishing Shalu's involvement. However, she has not been given a clean chit yet.

Police said Subrat and Vishal allegedly attempted to divert suspicion towards Shalu. During questioning, Shalu reportedly told investigators that she had been implicated to protect her husband.

Digital Evidence In Vineet Manocha Murder Case

Police said the alleged conspiracy came to light through analysis of call detail records, CCTV footage, digital and scientific evidence, recoveries and other circumstantial evidence.

Investigators are also examining the accused persons' movements, phone calls, financial transactions and other links surrounding the murder. Police said more than 100 questions were prepared during the interrogation of the accused.

Subrat has not confessed to the murder, police said. Investigators are continuing to verify the allegations made by Vishal against call records and other digital and circumstantial evidence.
