A dramatic video from Gujarat's Vapi has captured the scale of flooding after record-breaking rainfall battered Valsad district, leaving several vehicles submerged in a waterlogged parking area. The flooding comes after Umbergaon in Valsad recorded an unprecedented 1,100 mm of rainfall in just 16 hours till Thursday morning, triggering widespread inundation across south Gujarat.
The viral video, filmed from an elevated position, shows a residential building's parking area completely flooded, with water levels reaching the windows of parked cars. Roads surrounding the building are also seen submerged following the relentless downpour.
Valsad Worst-Hit as Rivers Overflow
According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), Valsad was the worst-affected district during the latest spell of heavy rainfall. Besides Umbergaon, several other talukas in the district received more than 600 mm of rain over the same period. The overflowing Auranga, Par and Daman Ganga rivers inundated several low-lying areas, causing widespread flooding and severe waterlogging across the district.

Thousands Shifted to Safer Locations
Officials said more than 2,200 residents from flood-prone localities in Surat city have been relocated to safer places as floodwaters entered residential areas.

IMD Issues Red Alert for South Gujarat
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Valsad, Navsari, Dangs, Surat and Tapi for Thursday and Friday, warning of extremely heavy rainfall.
Authorities have been asked to remain on high alert as more rain is expected over the next two days, raising concerns over fresh flooding and disruptions.
Chief Minister Reviews Relief Efforts
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has deputed several ministers to the rain-hit districts to oversee rescue and relief operations and coordinate with local administrations.
Officials are continuing evacuation, monitoring river levels and providing assistance to residents affected by the heavy rainfall.
