March 22, Mumbai: There is some bit of relief for Mumbai commuters as MNS transport Union has called off the strike of Ola drivers, post discussions with the officials of the taxi aggregators. Ola officials, confirmed that drivers will be back on job from Wednesday night. However, Uber drivers continue to protest. Reportedly, among the demands that the MNS put forth to Ola is introduction of Marathi in contracts of drivers and writing 'Ola' in English as well as Marathi on the cabs. Ola Cabs hasn't confirmed anything on the same.

The strike started on March 18 midnight and has been called by the Maharashtra Navnirman Vahtuk Sena which has claimed that several drivers are not being able to cover costs due to falling business. Ola and Uber had apparently given big assurances to the drivers, but today they are unable to cover their costs. After investing Rs 5-7 lakh and were expecting to make Rs 1.5 lakh a month, these drivers today are unable to make even half of this because of the mismanagement by these companies.

On Wednesday, Mumbaikars continued to face problems, even though there were cabs in the streets as compared to the previous two days of the strike, but issues of delay and surge pricing remained. There have been reports of violence as well reported as MNS leader Nitin Nandgaonkar on Monday broke the windshield of a taxi which was plying despite the strike called by Ola and Uber Drivers in Mumbai. In Mumbai alone, there are over 45,000 cabs on these aggregators but due to the slump in business, there has been a fall of 20 per cent in the number of cabs running on these platforms in the city.
