Bhopal, December 11: The results of assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh will be declared today. Counting of votes for 230 seats of Madhya Pradesh assembly that went to polls on November 28, includingĀ Dabra, Sewda, Bhander, Datia, Karera and Pohari assembly seats, will begin at 8 am. The Dabra assembly seat witnessed an electoral fight between incumbent MLA of CongressĀ Imarti Devi Suman and her arch-rival, BJP'sĀ Kaptan Singh Sahsari. In Sewda, BJP replaced its sitting legislator Pradeep Agarwal withĀ Radhelal Baghel, who faced a challenge from Congress candidateĀ Ghanshyam Singh. The BJP also fielded a fresh face in Bhander. It nominated Rajni Prajapati against Congress candidateĀ Raksha Santram Saroniya. TheĀ Bhander assembly seatĀ was previously won by BJP's Ghanshyam Pironiya.
In Datia, BJP exuded confidence in its sitting legislatorĀ Narottam Mishra. The Congress fieldedĀ Rajendra Bharti to grab the seat. In Karera, the Congress replaced its sitting MLA Shakuntala Khatik withĀ Jaswant Jatav who was challenged by BJP nomineeĀ Rajkumar Khatik. The Pohari seat witnessed an electoral fight between BJP'sĀ Prahlad Bharti and Congress candidateĀ Suresh Rathkheda. The seat was previously held by Bharti.
While the BJP contested all 230 seats, the Congress fielded candidates in 229 seats leaving one seat, Jatara in Tikamgarh district, for Sharad Yadav-led LJD. BSP contested in 227 seats and SP fielded candidates in 51 constituencies.Ā In 2013, the BJP won 165 seats, the Congress 58, BSP four and Independents won three seats.
