After the seventh round of counting of votes in Malegaon, Congress' Fehmida Farooq Qureshi leading with 150 votes. 

After the sixth round, Shakeela Begum of NCP-Janata Dal Secular is leading and Congress' Fehmida Farooq Qureshi is trailing.

The four major political parties in the state in competition for the bypolls include-- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena, Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Mumbai, June 24: Bypolls for zilla parishad, panchayat samiti and municipal corporation seats in Maharashtra were held on Sunday. The results of the same would be declared by the State Election Commission (SEC) today. The counting of votes is slated to begin at 10:00am. Apart from the rural civic seats, by-elections were also held for 15 vacant seats spread across the municipal corporations of Navi Mumbai, Ulhasnagar, Kalyan-Dombivali, Pune, Kolhapur, Nashik, Malegaon, Parbhani and Chandrapur.

The micro-level polls comes around four months before the assembly elections in Maharashtra, expected to be held in around October-November. The results today would reflect the cadre-level readiness of the four major political parties in the state -- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena, Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

The BJP-Sena combine, which is ruling Maharashtra in a coalition for the last 5 years, has formed a pre-poll pact to contest the upcoming elections. The alliance has set a target of 220+.
