Lucknow, October 6: Rukamani Devi Nishad, sister of late Phoolan Devi, on Sunday, October 6, joined the Samajwadi Party. She was welcomed to the party by SP national president Akhilesh Yadav. Rukamani Devi left the Pragatisheel Manav Samaj Party to joined the SP. Along with her, four-time MP Ramakant Yadav also returned to the party. Rukamini Party belongs to boatmen’s Nishad community which comes under the Other Backward Castes (OBCs) category. Once a dacoit, Phoolan Devi was popularly was known as Bandit Queen, later turned to politicians and was a Samajwadi Party MP before she was assassinated in 2001.
