Agartala, Mar 3: West Tripura, district, consisting of a significant urban population, was the only part of the state where the ruling CPI(M) faced a stringent challenge from the Congress in the last elections. In this round of the polls, the battle turned more intriguing with the Congress MLAs jumping ship to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which had launched a high-voltage campaign to dethrone the Left from Tripura. The Election Commission will declare the poll results today. The counting of votes was scheduled to begin at 8 am. They are: Agartala, Badharghat, Mohanpur, Town Bardowali, Majlishpur, Khayerpur, Mandi Bazar, Barjala, Mohanpur, Pratapgarh, Ramnagar, Simna, Suryamaninagar and Bamutia.

6 of the 14 districts are reserved for tribal candidates. The constituencies were bagged by the CPI(M) in the last elections. From the remaining 8 seats, which houses a sizeable urban population, the Congress emerged victorious in 5 among them.
