Couples planning to get married in the new year in Prayagraj may have to look for new dates so they don't clash with Kumbh Mela 2019. As the Hindu pilgrimage is scheduled to happen in Allahad, Uttar Pradesh's Yogi Adityanath government has banned all weddings scheduled between January to March 2019.

According to the rule issued by the district authorities, weddings will not be allowed a day before and after the main snan (bath) days of Kumbh which is to be held between January 15 and March 4. District authorities have informed owners of banquets and pandals in main city areas of the rule. They have informed the wedding parties about the notices and urged them to either postpone the weddings or to get married before the new year. According to a report in The Times of India, over 300 weddings were to be held during the dates. Kumbh Mela in Allahabad: Only Vegetarian And Teetotaller Policemen Wanted For Security.

Five key snan that will take place during the holy pilgrimage is as follows:

January: Makar Sankranti and Paush Poornima snan 

February: Mauni Amavasya, Basant Panchmi and Maaghi Poornima snan

March: Mahashivtarti snan

The owners of the halls have addressed the district administration about the huge loses they will have to incur due to the cancellations. A large number of Hindus, mostly saints take bath in the holy river of Ganges during Kumbh Mela. Earlier, the UP government had ordered the closure of all tanneries in Kanpur from December 15, 2018, to March 15, 2019, to keep Ganga clean during the Kumbh in Prayagraj.
