A London-based lawyer couple from Mira Road could not believe their eyes when they got back their valuables worth Rs 5 lakh. It was an auto-driver's honesty that saved the day for the couple. Auto-driver Bipin Patel noticed a black bag in the back seat of his vehicle on July 18. He opened to find gold jewellery in it. Realising it may belong to the couple who just hired the auto, he informed the police.

Patel went to Kashmira police station and handed over the bag containing values. He helped the police in tracing the couple by describing the area where the couple were dropped off. According to a report in The Times of India, the cops from the local crime branch then went in search of the two. Husband and wife, Zulfikar Lakdawala and Rachna, both lawyers were visiting India when the incident happened. They have been staying in London since 2002.

After informing the couple of their lost bag, it was handed over to them at the police station. The couple said that after alighting from the auto they realised that they had lost their bag containing gold. They had no hope left of retrieving it when they were told about its recovery. An elated couple thanked Patel for his honesty. The police also praised the auto-driver for being a responsible citizen.

This is not the first time, an auto driver's honesty helped their customers. In a similar in Mumbai, an auto driver returned a bag containing Rs 80,000 to a woman who runs a school in Chembur. She was going home with the fees collected from children when she forgot her bag in an auto. After being returned the bag, she learnt of the driver's financial instability and decided to fund his children's education.
