Your joyride in Matheran's toy train is all set to be more exhilarating. Central Railway is planning to attach a Vistadome coach to the Neral-Matheran toy train. The popular train will now have a glass ceiling and let passengers have a better travel experience. Ravindra Gupta, Member (Rolling Stock), Railway Board took the decision after interaction with tourists who suggested a better view of the ghat from the train.

Hindustan Times quoted a CR official as saying, "The modification of an existing coach will be done in our workshop. This will also lead to a rise in fares, which will be decided after consulting the Railway Board." The service is expected to begin in October.

Spreading the digital wave, Central Railway has also collaborated with Google Art and Culture that will capture the scenic views of Matheran railways and digitalise them. Promoting tourism, they are also planning to convert one of their coaches into a restaurant which serves local cuisine. After a string of derailments, railways started the Neral-Mathern train service last year. It was opened fully on January 26 this year. Officials also have to develop transform some old railway buildings into at Matheran into guest house.

The Indian Railways introduced its first-of-its-kind see-through Vistadome coach on Mumbai-Goa route last year. The Dadar-Madgaon Jan Shatabdi Express got the glass-roof coach offering a great view of the surroundings. The Indian Railways have been witnessing many changes in the recent past. Additional platforms, new trains, redevelopment of platforms, new bridges, water and food stalls at railway stations are some of them.
