After constant failures in reaching out to SRK, Dr Kafeel Khan, who was falsely implicated in the Gorakhpur encephalitis deaths in 2017, wrote an open letter of gratitude to Shah Rukh Khan for allegedly narrating the same incident in Jawan. In the letter, he thanked the actor for using cinema as a means to address critical socio-political issues. He also said that he was profoundly moved by the film's portrayal of the incident.
