Despite the loss in the final, the 20-year-old became the first Indian men’s singles player to reach the continental summit clash since Dinesh Khanna’s gold in 1965. Ranked 25th globally, Shetty produced a sensational run in China. He upset top-seeded defending champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn in a three-game semi-final and previously defeated world-class opponents Jonatan Christie and Li Shifeng.
