Kamindu Mendis was deservedly named the Man of the Match for his magnificent 182 in the first innings. Prabath Jayasuriya, who picked up nine wickets in the match, was chosen as Man of the Series.
Sri Lanka have beaten New Zealand by an innings and 154 runs in the 2nd Test match of the two-match series, in Galle on September 29. The Sri Lankan spinners were absolutely dominant as they derailed the New Zealand national cricket team's batting order in both innings. After being bowled out for just 88 in their first innings, New Zealand put up an improved batting performance this time around with half-centuries from Devon Conway (61), Tom Blundell (60), Glenn Phillips (78) and Mitchell Santner (67). But they could manage just 360 and it clearly was not enough. Debutant Nishan Peiris, followed up his three-fer in the first innings with a six-wicket haul in the second innings. With this, the Sri Lanka national cricket team clinched a 2-0 whitewash. Sri Lanka had earlier first innings after scoring a mammoth 602/5, with the ever-impressive Kamindu Mendis scoring 182 and Dinesh Chandimal and Kusal Mendis hitting 116 and 106 respectively.
