Artur Chilingarov, a distinguished Russian polar explorer and veteran member of parliament, passed away on Saturday at the age of 84. Born in Leningrad to Russian and Armenian parents, Chilingarov spent much of his childhood in Russia's North Caucasus region. His career in polar exploration began in the early 1970s, marking him as a leading figure in Russia's Arctic and Antarctic scientific endeavors. He participated in numerous missions to both poles and was a vocal advocate for Russia's territorial claims in the Arctic.
