Out!That's It! Sensational win for Afghanistan. England are now out of the competition as Afghanistan secured a thrilling victory over them in a nail-biting encounter. A knock of a lifetime from Ibrahim Zadran and then Azmatullah Omarzai kept bringing Afghanistan back into the game everytime they drifted away. Even Joe Root's magnificent century was not enough in the end.
Out! It is Azmatullah Omarzai once again who keeps Afghanistan in the game. Picks up the crucial wicket of Jamie Overton and England are in deep waters once again. Jamie Overton just chipped the ball to the hands of long on in search of single, Could have hit it full fledged and got it over the boundary line. The game is nearing a nail-biting finish. Jamie Overton c Nabi b Azmatullah 32(28).
Out! That's the big fish Joe Root! It is Azmatullah Omarzai once again who provides the breakthrough. Joe Root was hobbling with cramp and was looking for the big shots. Azmatullah bounced him close to his body and Root's upper cut takes his gloves on the way to the hand of Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Afghanistan will hope again. Root c Gurbaz b Azmatullah 120(111).
Hundred! Irrespective of the result this is a special one for Joe Root. His ODI future has remained uncertain for a period of time but this time he has made it clear that he still has ODI cricket left in him. Has looked great in the innings since he arrived at the crease and brought up his 17th century. Root will not be content as he still has work in hand.
Out! Another failure for Liam Livingstone. Slashes at the ball outside off and gets an edge which flies to the hands of Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Gulbadin Naib brings out his celebration. England are big trouble here with an uphill task in hand for Joe Root. Livingstone c Gurbaz b Gulbadin 10(8).
Out! Huge wicket for Afghanistan and they are back end. Jos Buttler gives in to the pressure. Azmatullah Omarzai was the one that cornered him with pace change and Buttler threw the kitchen sink. Got holed out at mid-wicket and England are now in trouble. Buttler c Rahmat b Azmatullah 38(42).
After the initial hiccups, Jos Buttler has stabled himself and stitched a steady partnership with Joe Root. Root has looked fluent and steady throughout the innings and Buttler has taken the role of support and occasional aggressor to get the scoreboard ticking. The asking run rate is under control and they will just have to pace the chase here.
Joe Root has looked really good so far in the innings and the one who has hold the innings together. He has carried the innings and is looking to take the game as deep as possible with a partner with him. Amid that, he has also completed his half-century. Meanwhile, Jos Buttler survived a close appeal of LBW.
Out! Huge wicket for Afghanistan and Joe Root opens his helmet in frustration. Harry Brook departs and Mohammad Nabi is the man behind it. Gets one on good length, Root is on the backfoot and lofts it back straight to the hands of Nabi. Afghanistan are on top here and England need something special from their captain. Brook c and b Nabi 25(21).
Out! Huge wicket for Afghanistan. Body blow for England. The well-set Ben Duckett has to depart. Got a life once earlier on but this time the DRS does the job. Goes deep in the crease and misses the line of a Rashid Khan delivery, gets caught right in front. Afghanistan have the game in their hands now. Duckett lbw b Rashid Khan 38(45).
Just like the previous game, Ben Duckett and Joe Root are stitching a steady partnership after losing two wickets upfront early. Duckett is one leading the charge again and Root has provided him good support. They will have to take it deep to have some chance to accelerate later. A catch drop has also helped Duckett.
Out! England lose two wickets early now and they are in trouble. Both Phil Salt and Jamie Smith tried to attack early and lost their wickets. Azmatullah Omarzai got one to swing in and cleaned up Salt while Jamie Smith tried to attack Mohammad Nabi on the first ball and miscued it to the hands of cover fielder. Afghanistan on top here. Jamie Smith c Azmatullah b Nabi 9(13) and Phil Salt b Azmatullah 12(13).
A sensational innings from Ibrahim Zadran and his 177 has powered Afghanistan to a really strong total despite losing three wickets early. Zadran weathered the initial blows and drove the team forward with Hashmatullah Shahidi. Then Azamtullah Omarzai and Mohammad Nabi provided some quickfire support and they were able to get a solid finish. England will be under pressure at this stage.
Afghanistan has scored about 59 runs in just five overs with Ibrahim Zadran and Mohammad Nabi shifting the gears. Zadran has been phenomenal and has not looked back after completing his century. Brings up his 150 and looks good to take it further.
Out! End of a really good knock from Azmatullah Omarzai. He was playing some sensational shots and tried to pump Jamie Overton down the ground. Didn't get enough of it this time and Tom Banton takes a simple catch. England will be relieved. Azmatullah c (sub)Tom Banton b Jamie Overton 41(31).
Hundred! Massive for Ibrahim Zadran. Just came back from a big injury but showed grit and how skilled he is as he took on the England bowlers and brough out Afghanistan from a tough position they were in. As he accelerated and looked to take Afghanistan to a good score, he also scored his century. It is the first century for an Afghanistan cricketer in ICC Champions Trophy.
Out! Afghanistan made a good recovery after losing three wickets upfront. Ibrahim Zadran led the charge as Hashmatullah Shahidi provided support. Zadran was accelerating as they crossed the halfway mark of the innings and Shahidi tried to follow suit. But Adil Rashid varied pace with guile and foxes Shahidi to clean him up. Shahidi b Adil Rashid 40(67).
After the initial setback where Afghanistan lost three wickets quickly, Ibrahim Zadran steadied their ship and as he continues accumulating crucial runs and in the way he completed his half-century. Ibrahim and Hashmatullah Shahidi are building a short partnership here.
Three wickets in the first ten overs without a lot of runs on the board and Afghanistan are on the backfoot relying on Ibrahim Zadran and Hashmatullah Shahidi to do some rebuild for them consolidating the innings. The run rate is much lower than they would want it to be.
Out! Afghanistan lose their third and are in big trouble now. Jofra Archer peppers Rahmat Shah with back of length bowling and the latter goes for the elusive pull. It takes a top edge and Adil Rashid runs in to take a good catch. Three for Jofra already and Jos Buttler will be happy. Rahmat c Adil Rashid b Jofra Archer 4(9).
Both teams are coming off losses in their CT openers, however, England looked in better form than Afghanistan. Afghanistan will again rely on their spinners to rattle England's over-aggressive batter, while the Three Lions will bank on their bowlers to outsmart the Afghan Atalan batting line-up. England will miss the services of Brydon Carse, who has flown back home and has been replaced by Rehan Ahmed in the squad, which would be a blessing in disguise for England.
