India took a 2-1 lead in the four-match series against Australia after winning the third Test against Australia by 137 runs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). India following this victory also retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and now will be looking to clinch the historic series win at Sydney, the venue for the fourth and final Test. Virat Kohli-led Team India Wins Boxing Day Test by 137 Runs, Take Unassailable 2-1 Lead in the Series.

The day five started on a frustrating note for India as rains washed out the entire first session of day five. The rains forced an early lunch as well. Once weather was clear and play started India finished things in just 4.3 overs.

Jasprit Bumrah, who scalped six wickets in the first innings, dismissed Pat Cummins to take India closer to win. Cummins was caught at first slip after scoring 63. It was Cummins who made sure the Test match enters the fifth day after showing some resilience with the bat on the penultimate day.

India then sealed the deal as Ishant Sharma had Nathan Lyon caught behind. The win was special for India as it was the 150th Test victory for the men in blue. The victory now assures that India cannot lose the series and in fact have a good chance of winning the first-ever series on Australian soil. Ind vs Aus 3rd Test Day 5- As it Happened.
