Pakistan will face Bangladesh in the 1st T20I of a three-match series hoping to shade aside the 0-3 drubbing they were handed by a second-string Sri Lanka team in their last Twenty20 international series at home. Pakistan vs Bangladesh 1st T20I match will be played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on January 24, 2020 (Friday). Both teams come into the three-match series on the back of defeats in their previous T20I series. Pakistan blanked in Australia, while Bangladesh put up a tough fight against India but ended with the same story – a 1-2 defeat. Bangladesh and Pakistan meet in a series that at one stage seemed impossible but was agreed after a long meeting in Dubai presided by ICC chairman Shashank Manohar. Bangladesh had agreed to a short T20I series but rejected Pakistan’s proposal of a Test series before agreeing to it later – albeit in three phases, the first of which begins on January 24, 2020 (Friday). The visitors will, however, be without two of their most experienced and senior players in Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim. The former is banned for a two-year period while latter opted out citing family concerns.

That itself is bound to pressure of remaining handful players in an otherwise inexperienced squad. Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar and Mahmudullah will have to guide the Bangladesh batting, while the likes of Mustafizzur Rahman and Rubel Hossain will need to speak with the ball if Bangladesh are to get anything out of this series. Pakistan vs Bangladesh Head-to-Head Record.

Pakistan, on the other, have called back veterans Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez while leaving out regular names such as Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Amir, Imam-ul-Haq, Haris Sohail and Asif Ali. Among the new names in the Pakistani squad, Harid Rauf will be the one to watch out for. He lightened up the Big Bash League for Melbourne Stars and Pakistan will be hoping he can repeat the same on home turf.

Pakistan are world No 1 in T20I rankings but have lost their last 8 matches out of 9 T20Is in 2019. They had 17 out of 19 a year before the sudden decline. Captain Babar Azam spoke about justifying their world No 1 status with a dominating performance against Bangladesh at home and Pakistan will hope they can reprise that in the field against a team they have defeated 8 times in 10 T20I matches.
