Right then, a target of 162 at the Eden Gardens for Chennai to win the reverse fixture as well. Their batting has been inconsistent but somehow has done enough to take the yellow team home. Will they do the same again? Or will Kolkata have the quality in their bowling to restrict the opposition? Do join us in a short while to find out.
Chris Lynn is down for a chat. He feels pretty good about his own score but mentions now that they have 160 on the board, they have to try and defend it. He informs that the wicket was sightly two-paced and he hopes that his team's bowlers are on on the money tonight. Reckons they were looking good when he himself was dismissed, because Russell and Gill were yet to bat but it was unfortunate for them to lose wickets in clusters. He states that it would be nice to knock a few wickets of Chennai down in the Powerplay and that his advice to the bowlers would be to hit the top of the stumps as Chennai batsmen are quite strong if given the width.
Chennai were under pressure in the first half but then made a resounding comeback on the back of Imran Tahir's overs. The leggie bowled with great control and picked up four wickets in his spell and pegged the opposition back in the middle overs. Chris Lynn, Nitish Rana, Robin Uthappa and Andre Russell were his victims, all star players, and that speaks volumes about his performance. Shardul Thakur and Mitchell Santner were also quite impressive in their spells.
Kolkata initiated brightly after being put into bat. Chris Lynn was in top gear from the word go and he took Deepak Chahar, the best bowler for Chennai in the Powerplay before this match, to the cleaners. That set the momentum going for the hosts and they looked destined for a total close to 180-185 with the likes of Andre Russell due to bat.
Excellent bowling effort by Chennai at the back end of this innings. They gave away just 28 runs in the final five overs and picked up three wickets too. That completely spoiled Kolkata's hope of maximizing the death overs and they ended up with a below-par total on this ground.
Shardul Thakur to Piyush Chawla. OUT! A run out on the final ball and Kolkata end with 161/8 on the board. A terrific yorker by Thakur, following the batsman down the leg side, Chawla swings but fails to connect. They attempt to steal a bye but Dhoni tosses up the ball to the bowler who runs to his end and takes the bails off.

Coming to the Kolkata bowling, there was not much to be said other than that there was only a single bowler who was on top of his form tonight. Sunil Narine tried his best as he bowled an economical spell but the total set on the board was eventually not enough. Earlier on in the evening, Lynn played a stroke-filled knock of 82 but even that got the hosts only 161. Chennai's bowlers were too good especially Tahir, and played a massive part in this win. The chase was completed comfortably and it was also the 10th one on the trot in the League for the team who was batting second. Thus, Kolkata now have lost 3 in a row and both their games this year to the Men in Yellow. They need to turn things around quickly or they could find themselves in a bit of pressure going ahead.
The chase of 162 began in spectacular fashion with Faf du Plessis setting the pace early on with a flurry of boundaries. His opening partner, Shane Watson, though did not last long, and in came Raina to replace him. The southpaw kept peppering the boundaries at frequent intervals and also kept the singles and doubles coming to ensure the required run rate never got out of control. Though wickets fell around him, he did not play false shots and eventually made sure his side ended up on the winning side with the help of Jadeja who played a scintillating cameo right at the end.
