Stumps! The second day of this Test was dominated by the pair of Steve Smith and Alex Carey. Both batters have put Australia in complete control after stumps on Day 2 in Galle. The pitch has offered some turn, but Smith and Carey have countered it beautifully with their footwork and positive approach. Sri Lanka tried everything, but their plans were negotiated by the duo of Smith-Carey. This has helped the visitors to take a 73-run lead in the first innings, and with seven wickets in hand, Australia will aim to maximise every opportunity tomorrow.

Hundred! Second Test century from Alex Carey. He raised his arms in celebration before getting a big hug from Smith, who completed his hundred a few overs back. The Australian wicketkeeper-batter has batted superbly and deserves to reach the three-figure mark. Carey's first hundred came on Boxing Day in 2022.

An ominous sign for Sri Lanka as they are still searching for a wicket here.

Fifty! Lovely innings from Alex Carey as he brought up his 10th half-century in Test cricket. The wicketkeeper-batter has stayed positive in the crease and has looked to score runs. This has helped the visitors to keep the scoreboard ticking. Australia has passed the 200-run mark, and they are now trailing behind below the 50-run mark. Excellent batting from Carey and Steve Smith.

Australia scored 112 runs losing just 1 wicket in the second session of the day 2 and seems to be in control of the game. Steve Smith closing in on a well deserved century while Alex Carey is playing on 49. Can Sri Lanka make comeback in last session?

100-run stand between Steve Smith and Alex Carey now. Both batters are playing with confidence as the opposition has very little to trouble them. Carey is close to his half century while Smith is racing towards the three figure score. The game could be said and dine on day 2 itself. 

After completing his half century, Steve smith is playing more aggressively now. The skipper is leading by example taking on the opposition as the lead is down to 95 now. Smith is batting on 65 while Alex Carey is on 32. Sri Lankan side looking helpless on the field.   

Another mesmerising batting performance from Steve Smith as the Australian batter is now close to his half century. Visitors nearly cut the lead to half losing just three wickets and will look to take a lead at the end of the day. 

Out! An important wicket for Sri Lanka as Usman Khawaja departs. Nishan Peiris provides the breakthrough with delivery pitching around off and skids onto the left-hander, the length was there for the pull, but he's undone by the pace and is struck on the back-leg, in front of middle, would've slid on and crashed into the leg-stump. A strong 50 run partnership between Steve smith and Usman Khawaja puts Australia in driving seat here. Similar was the story in the first stage. Sri Lanka desperately need a wicket here if they wish to change the narrative. 

Yes Travis Head played major role with his bombastic batting performance but after his and Marnus' wicket, it was all Steve Smith and Usman Khawaja who remain unbeaten at lunch time. With 48 run partnership between the two stars, side will be aiming for big total at the end of the day. Sri Lanka on the other hand has a time to rework tactics and need to break this partnership earliest. 

Even though the 10th wicket partnership for Sri Lanka extended Australia's wait to take control of the game, the side is slowly cutting down the lead and now has scored 78 runs losing just two wickets. Steve smith and Usman Khawaja played brilliantly in the first Test and looking great at the moment.  

After losing two quick wickets, the priority will be to stay in the middle than scoring at fast rate. Experienced pair of Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith are aware of the conditions and will look to steady the innings and then attack.

A relief for Sri Lankan side a explosive batter Travis Head departs early. Head was looking to be positive and his aggressive approach has cost him his wicket. tossed up delivery invitingly around off, Head ran down the pitch, but the ball dipped onto him and then spun. Head mistimes his shot and the edge is easily pouched at slip by Dhananjaya de Silva. Peiris suffered in the first Test, but he has got an early wicket here. Usman Khawaja and Travis Head dominated the Sri Lankan bowling attack in the first Test match and the y are looking to replicate the similar form. scoring eight runs off first over highlights Australia's intent and with this, the lead might vanish mid way into the second session. Out! Not what spectators wanted to see. After a great knock from Kusal Mendis, the batter deserved a century but lack of support from other end halted his total to 85. 250 up for Sri Lanka! The plans seems to be working for the hosts as they reached a mini-milestone of 250 runs despite losing nine wickets on day 1. Sri Lanka have scored 25 runs in just five overs with Mendis playing more aggressively and dealing in boundaries only. Australia must wait patiently for a mistake. 

Australia's magician spinner Nathan Lyon has already picked up three wicket in the match so far and taken his tally to 549 Test wickets. One wicket away from 550 Wickets' landmark the right-arm spinner starts proceedings for the visitors.
