Google Tests New Play Store Design for Paid Apps
At present, paid and free apps on the Google Play Store largely use the same listing interface. Users therefore have to check the app details to determine whether an app requires payment. Google Play Store May Soon Get Dedicated Collection Widgets for Food, Games, Shopping and More.
The new interface gives paid app listings a more immersive appearance. It features a larger image from the app or game at the top of the listing, while the background has been changed from white to black.
The redesigned layout also appears to integrate more smoothly with the Android status bar, which displays information such as the time, battery level, network signal and Wi-Fi connection. The darker background and larger image create a more seamless transition between the app listing and the top portion of the phone's display. New Play Store UI May Still Be a Work in Progress
While the redesigned interface gives paid apps a distinct appearance, it currently leaves out some information available in existing Play Store listings. The new design does not appear to display the number of installs or the app's file size.
Google could still make changes before deciding whether to roll out the new interface more widely. There is currently no confirmed release date for the redesigned paid app listings.
The move could help Google make paid apps more visually distinct from free offerings on the Play Store. However, whether the new design will encourage more Android users to purchase paid apps remains uncertain.
