Snapchat has updated its Spotlight recommendation systems to exclude wholly artificial intelligence-generated videos, aiming to prioritise human-made content and original storytelling. The platform seeks to address the rise of low-quality, repetitive digital material by ensuring that synthetic uploads no longer qualify for algorithmic distribution.

As per a post by Snap, the company stated that it wants Spotlight to remain a space where users can discover authentic creativity from real people. The platform noted that the number of unique contributors globally has grown by more than 120 per cent compared to the previous year, reflecting a strong community embrace of genuine personal perspectives. Flipkart Free Netflix Mobile Plan for Plus Members Introduced; Everything You Need to Know.

Exceptions for AI Editing Tools

While fully synthetic uploads are restricted, the policy change is not an outright rejection of artificial intelligence technology. Content that has been enhanced or edited using official platform creative tools remains fully eligible for recommendation.

To maintain clarity for viewers, these permitted submissions will feature designated transparency indicators. Company representatives emphasized that technology should assist rather than replace personal expression during the creative process.

Broader Industry Moderation Trends

The adjustment aligns with a wider industry movement among major social networks to counter low-quality automated uploads and maintain content standards. Platforms across the digital sector have recently introduced stricter monetization rules, flagging features, and reporting mechanisms for synthetic material. Google Pulls Nano Banana Feature From Google Earth Following Viral Fabricated Disaster Images, Issues Statement.

Snapchat intends to continue investing in features that reward originality, ensuring that human creators retain the best opportunity to build an audience and have their work discovered.
