X Down Again: Global Outage Leaves Thousands Unable to Load Feeds, Repeated Disruptions Raise Concerns

X, formerly Twitter, faced a major global outage on Wednesday evening, leaving thousands unable to load timelines or open links. Downdetector showed a sharp spike in complaints from India and the US. The issue has occurred earlier this year too, raising concerns over repeated outages.

Bengaluru, March 18: A sudden outage on X, widely referred to by users as “Twitter down,” left thousands struggling to access their feeds on Wednesday evening. The disruption quickly escalated from isolated complaints into a widespread issue, affecting users across India, the United States, and several other regions. This is not the first time in 2026 that users have faced issue with X down as the Elon Musk-owned social media app faced disruptions earlier in January and February also.

According to Downdetector, reports of Twitter down issues began rising sharply in India during peak evening hours. By 8:17 PM IST, more than 1,200 users had already reported problems. Within minutes, the number surged dramatically, crossing 4,500 complaints by 8:30 PM IST, signaling a rapidly growing outage. X Down: Elon Musk-Owned Social Platform Hit by Outage, Posts and Media Not Loading.

For most users, the experience was frustratingly similar. While notifications continued to arrive, suggesting that some backend services were still active, the main timeline refused to load. Many users repeatedly tried refreshing their feeds, only to encounter blank screens or endless loading. On the mobile app, a common error message appeared: “Cannot retrieve posts at this time. Please try again later,” further confirming the Twitter down situation. X Down: Elon Musk-Run Social Media Platform Hit With Global Outage; Users Across India, US and UK Face Disruption.

The issue was not limited to India. In the United States, over 14,000 users reported similar problems within a short span, reinforcing that this was a global Twitter down outage rather than a regional glitch.

As the outage spread, users turned to other platforms to confirm whether Twitter was down for everyone. Screenshots of error messages, along with memes and reactions, quickly began circulating online. The phrase “Twitter down” started trending elsewhere as users searched for answers and shared updates.

Interestingly, some parts of the platform continued to function. Notifications were still being delivered, creating a confusing experience where users could see activity alerts but were unable to access the actual content. This partial functionality pointed to a deeper technical issue affecting core services like feed loading and link access.

So far, the company has not released an official explanation for why Twitter is down or how long it will take to fully restore services. However, such outages are not entirely new for the platform.

Earlier in 2026, X faced multiple disruptions. In February, a major Twitter down incident impacted users worldwide, with over 41,000 reports logged globally. Similarly, in January, more than 28,000 users across countries including the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada reported issues ranging from login failures to blank feeds.

With recurring outages becoming more frequent, concerns around platform reliability are growing, especially as millions depend on X, or Twitter, for real-time news, updates, and communication.
