The parents of 4-year-old Javeayah Harris used corrosive chemicals to dissolve her body and poured what remained into a South Carolina reservoir, Aiken County Sheriff Marty Sawyer said Thursday. Some of the girl's remains have since been recovered, but authorities say it is unlikely all of them will ever be found.

Sawyer delivered the update during an emotional news conference, days after investigators launched a search connected to the girl's disappearance.

What Investigators Found

According to Sawyer, an investigation revealed that Javeayah's parents, Michilae Herring and Johmarea Harris, used corrosive chemicals and other tools to destroy her body following her death. The two then poured what remained of her into the Cedar Creek Reservoir in Fairfield County, where investigators later recovered some remains. US Shocker: Detroit Sisters Attack Restaurant Employee, Stab Her With Knife Over Wrong Food Order; Arrested.

DNA analysis confirmed the recovered remains were consistent with being the biological offspring of Herring and Harris.

Sawyer said extensive and deliberate efforts were made to destroy and conceal evidence following the child's death. He called the actions "repulsive and revolting" and said in his 37 years in law enforcement, he had never heard of anything so horrific. Who Was Nasire Best? Timeline Of The Case

Investigators believe Javeayah had already been dead for about a month before Herring called 911 on June 30 to report her missing, claiming the girl had vanished while playing outside. The parents maintained that story for only a short time before confessing to her death, according to arrest warrants.

Authorities allege Javeayah died from a head injury caused by abuse at the hands of her mother. The child was never taken to a doctor for treatment.

Herring and Harris were arrested and charged with homicide by child abuse before Thursday's announcement, and both were denied bond on those charges. Following the update on the destroyed remains, they now face additional charges of destruction and desecration of human remains. Bond was denied again Thursday afternoon, with authorities citing them as flight risks.

Search Efforts And Community Response

The search for Javeayah spanned two counties. Investigators searched the family's home on Hillsboro Street in Aiken County, cordoning off the property and digging through nearby woods, while staff from the Aiken County Coroner's Office assisted. In Fairfield County, a days-long search was conducted at the Cedar Creek Reservoir, also known as Stumpy Pond, near the Debutary Creek access point.

By Wednesday, authorities had lifted roadblocks that had been in place throughout the search, an early sign that evidence had been located.

The Aiken community has continued to rally around the case, with a local church serving as a gathering point for searchers throughout the investigation.

Sawyer thanked the community for its support and asked residents to keep Javeayah's surviving family members in their thoughts.
