Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah's meeting with protesting farmers on the evening of December 8, indicating the involvement of the government's highest level to resolve the deadlock over the contentious farm laws – failed. The big meeting scheduled for December 9 with Agriculture Minister Naresh Tomar - the sixth since the protests started - has been called off. Reportedly, farmers' unions were given a presentation on the bills on December 8 and a proposal will be sent to farm leaders on December 9 with written amendments that the government intends to carry out.
