Coronavirus: Hydroxychloroquine - A Malaria Drug Endorsed For Preventive Use For Healthcare Workers Who Are Dealing With COVID-19 Patients

The novel coronavirus has caused the deaths of over 16,000 people worldwide with close to four lakh people infected with COVID-19 as of March 24. The infection has affected the young and old alike, and with limited resources in many countries, healthcare professionals who are on the frontline of the battle against COVID-19 are also falling prey to the infection. Researchers and scientists are racing against time to find a vaccine or a drug to treat COVID-19. Meanwhile, Hydroxychloroquine – a drug used for the prevention and treatment of certain types of malaria as well as rheumatoid arthritis has been recommended for Indian healthcare professionals who are treating coronavirus patients.
