A false message widely circulating on WhatsApp claims the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has instructed banks to stop disbursing INR 500 notes from ATMs by September 30, 2025. The viral message further alleges that 90% of ATMs will cease dispensing INR 500 notes by March 31, 2026, with future disbursements limited to INR 100 and INR 200 notes. However, PIB Fact Check, a central government unit, debunked this claim on July 12. It clarified that no such instruction has been issued by the RBI, and INR 500 notes will continue to be legal tender. Citizens are urged to verify information through official sources before sharing.
