On September 28, Kanhaiya Kumar, former student leader, joined the Congress party. Kanhaiya Kumar was inducted in the presence of party leader Rahul Gandhi. On September 28, Gujarat Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani, too, extended his support to the Congress party. This comes at a time when prominent leaders have left the Congress party in recent months. Former Mahila Congress chief Sushmita Dev joined the Trinamool Congress. Former Union Minister Jitin Prasada joined the BJP. Veteran Goa Congress leader Luizinho Faleiro also resigned from the party.
