On June 6, more nations like the United Arab Emirates,Ā Maldives,Ā JordanĀ andĀ IndonesiaĀ joined the countries criticisingĀ remarksĀ onĀ ProphetĀ MohammadĀ by BJP leadersĀ NupurĀ SharmaĀ and Naveen Jindal. Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Libya, Afghanistan, Pakistan and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation also criticised theĀ comments.Ā On June 5, Qatar, Kuwait and Iran had summoned Indian envoys, condemning theĀ remarksĀ madeĀ againstĀ ProphetĀ Mohammad. There were widespread calls on social media to boycott Indian products in Gulf countries.Ā India said that theĀ remarksĀ were made by fringe elementsĀ and did not reflect the government's opinion. On June 5, BJP suspended party spokespersonĀ NupurĀ SharmaĀ and expelled Naveen Kumar Jindal over theirĀ commentsĀ onĀ ProphetĀ Mohammad.
