On February 28, the United Nations opened an emergency special session of the General Assembly. The session was conducted to discuss Russia's invasion of Ukraine. A minute of silence was observed for those killed in the conflict. This was the 11th time in the UN's history that such a session was held. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said, “The fighting in Ukraine must stop.” Sergiy Kyslytsya, Ukraine's Ambassador to the UN said, “If Ukraine does not survive, the United Nations will not survive.
