Thaipusam is a festival celebrated by the Tamil community in South India. Also called Thaipooyam or Thaipoosam, it falls in the Tamil solar month of Thai. Tamilians across the globe celebrate this festival dedicated to worshipping Lord Kartikeya or Lord Murugan. It usually falls on the full moon day of Thai month and devotees during this time keep their bodies clean, follow a strict vegetarian diet and fast before Thaipusam.
