A video clip shared on social media showed hundreds of Afghans jostling to climb in a flight to fly out of the country. The world reaction was swift as the Taliban took over Afghanistan. “One more year, or five more years, of US military presence would not have made a difference if the Afghan military cannot or will not hold its own country,” US President Joe Biden said in a statement. United Nations chief, Antonio Guterres urged the Taliban to “exercise utmost restraint” in Afghanistan. Heiko Maas, Foreign Minister said Germany will fly its embassy staff out of Kabul. Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada said that the “rapidly evolving situation” in Afghanistan poses challenges for Canada’s diplomatic mission in the country.
