New Delhi, January 14: Amazon Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jeff Bezos on Tuesday arrived in India on an official visit. After landing in the national capital, he visited Raj Ghat, the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi. "Just landed in India and spent a beautiful afternoon paying my respects to someone who truly changed the world. 'Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.' - Mahatma Gandhi," Bezos posted on social media, while also sharing the clip of him at the Raj Ghat.

Bezos, who is narrowly ahead of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates in terms of the world's richest person, has arrived India to further his business prospects. He is expected to hold an array of meetings with leaders of India Inc. All eyes are set on his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Amazon chief also has an evening scheduled with the Bollywood on Thursday. Members of the Indian film fraternity are expected to attend the casual event being planned by his staff at a plush hotel in Mumbai. Noted music composer AR Rahman is scheduled to perform for the gathering.

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) have decided to stage protests at 300 locations across 15 countries against Bezos' visit to India. The demonstrations are aimed at shedding light over the adverse impact left by Amazon on Indian retailers. Since the boom of online consumer industry in India, primarily led by Amazon and Flipkart, retailers have recorded a considerable slump in sales.
