Singapore Man Filmed Couples Having S*x To Extort Them, Gets Jail and Caning
A Singapore man who filmed couples having s*x in public to extort them with cash and s*x demands was jailed two years and 10 months, and caned thrice. He threatened victims with exposure, pressured them to drop charges, and even targeted a second couple while already under police investigation.
A man who hid behind plants to film a couple having extramarital s*x at a rooftop garden in Singapore later used the video to threaten the woman, demanding both cash and s*x from her. Mohammad Sharulnaim Miswan, a 33-year-old Singaporean, was sentenced on Tuesday to two years and 10 months in jail, along with three strokes of the cane, after pleading guilty to charges of putting a person in fear of harm to commit extortion, obstructing justice, and wrongful confinement. Two additional charges were taken into consideration.
How The Extortion Began
At about 1am on January 15, 2024, Sharulnaim spotted a 35-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man at the rooftop garden of a multi-storey car park. Suspecting the pair were about to engage in s*xual activity, he hid behind plants and filmed them, capturing their faces and even repositioning himself for a better view. Months later, he recognised the woman at a clinic, revealed that he had footage of her, and coerced her into meeting him in his car. There, he threatened to post the video online unless she paid him. When she offered S$300, he called it "too low" and escalated his demands to S$2,000, then S$1,500, before eventually asking for S$1,000 in cash and s*x in exchange for deleting the footage. He also warned her that she could face jail time and fines if the video became a police matter. Case Falls Apart After Police Report
The woman ultimately refused his s*xual demand and, on the advice of the man in the video, filed a police report instead of paying. Unaware of this, Sharulnaim continued pressuring both victims, even threatening the male victim over the phone. No payment was made before he was arrested.
Pressured Victims Even After Arrest
Despite the ongoing investigation, Sharulnaim approached the woman's sister at a supermarket months later, claiming to have explicit footage and asking her to convince the victim to drop the case. He later begged the woman directly to abandon the complaint, offering gifts, financial help, and even claiming he wanted to end his life. The sister filed a separate police report over the incident.
Targeted A Second Couple While Under Investigation
While the case was still active, Sharulnaim spotted another couple having s*x in a parked car in February 2025. He photographed them, falsely claimed to be a former police officer, and threatened to report them. When the couple tried to leave, he blocked their car, forced the woman into his vehicle, and followed her home, refusing to let her go until her boyfriend left the scene. She later filed a police report, leading to his second arrest.
Sentencing
Prosecutors had sought two years and 11 to 13 months in jail plus caning. The judge noted the offences were premeditated and highlighted the toll on Sharulnaim's own wife and newborn child, who were present in court. Sharulnaim has prior convictions for theft and desertion from civil defence.
