Amaravati, Feb 3 (PTI): Covid-19 cases in Andhra Pradesh are dropping, leading to a significant reduction in the daily and weekly positivity rate, government data showed.

Week-on-week, the Covid-19 positivity rate declined from 29.85 to 25.64 per cent as on Wednesday while the average daily positivity rate too fell from 27.71 per cent to 17.07 per cent.

After over 3.25 crore sample tests, the cumulative positivity rate stood at 7.03 per cent, as the total cases touched 22,93,171.

On an average, the state reported 9,428 cases per day during the past week.

The overall recovery rate was 94.96 per cent as 21,85,042 infected persons got cured so far.

The mortality rate remained constant at 0.66 per cent, with a total death count of 14,641, the Medical and Health Department data showed.

According to the day's bulletin, AP registered 4,605 fresh cases in the 24 hours ending 9 am on Thursday.

Also, the state had 11,729 recoveries and 10 deaths in the 24-hour period.

The number of active cases reduced significantly to 93,488, a drop of 7,134 in a day.

Kadapa, West Godavari, Krishna, Kurnool and Guntur districts showed a significant spurt in coronavirus cases week-on-week while districts like Chittoor, Visakhapatnam, Prakasam, SPS Nellore, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam had a marked decline.

Five main cities Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur, Kurnool and Kakinada had more than 1,000 active cases each while in the rural mandals 119 had over 100 active cases each.

The data revealed that only about 2,300 infected persons were admitted to hospitals, including some 260 in intensive care unit, while another 390 were in Covid Care Centres.

According to the day's bulletin, East Godavari district reported the highest number of 642 fresh cases and Vizianagaram the lowest of 17.

Anantapuramu, Kadapa and Kurnool districts reported two fresh fatalities each and Chittoor, Guntur, Prakasam and Vizianagaram one each in a day.
