Noida (UP), Jul 22 (PTI) The Noida Authority is encouraging installation of rain water harvesting systems at offices, parks and multilevel parkings in the city, officials said Monday.
The aim is to not only focus on water conservation but also switch to non-conventional and cost-effective modes of rain water harvesting (RWH) systems, Noida Authority CEO Ritu Maheshwari said.
Conventional RWH units are in place at different projects run by the authority, including at underground and multilevel parkings, the Shilphaat, and at its main administration building campus in Sector 6, she said.
"Provision of RWH has also been made in new office building being constructed in Sector-96 and various other future projects.Water saving aerators have been installed in staff quarters in Sector 14A premises and other office buildings," she said.
Apart from this, the CEO said the authority has installed a new non-conventional, cost-effective and easy to use roof top RWH inside the campus of its main building.
"This simply includes drums of around 200 litres capacity which are perforated all along the periphery, geotextile fabric for rapping, PVC pipes for connection to drums and moderate quantity of gravels which is used as filter media," Maheshwari said.
"This is very cost effective and easy to install type non-conventional RWH. All the rain water from roof top, residual RO water and water coming from AC units have been made to go into this RWH," she added.
She said that at present this system has been installed at three places inside the campus with a total capacity of around 2000 litres .
"The authority plans to promote this non conventional RWH in several other places including staff quarters, office places, parks etc," Maheshwari said.
