Yamaha is preparing to expand its performance motorcycle lineup in India with the upcoming launch of the fully faired YZF-R2. Positioned to bridge the gap between the entry-level R15 and the higher-end R3, the new model is designed to cater to the growing demand for performance-oriented bikes in emerging markets.

As per a report by GaadiWaadi, the motorcycle is scheduled to debut on August 27, 2026. The R2 has been a subject of significant industry speculation following recent trademark filings, and it is expected to be manufactured at the company's Chennai facility. Local production is anticipated to assist in maintaining competitive pricing against established rivals. Bajaj Pulsar N125 Discontinued in India Less Than 2 Years After Launch.

Engine and Performance Specifications

The YZF-R2 is expected to house a newly developed 200 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine equipped with fuel injection and Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology. This powertrain is projected to deliver approximately 24 to 25 hp and 19 Nm of torque. The engine will likely be paired with a six-speed gearbox, featuring an assist and slipper clutch for smoother shifts.

Engineering efforts are focused on providing improved acceleration and highway cruising stability compared to the R15, while maintaining Yamaha's signature high-revving character. The bike will likely be built on a Deltabox frame, supported by upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock, with dual-channel ABS ensuring safety.

Design and Premium Features

The aesthetic of the R2 is expected to draw inspiration from Yamaha’s global R-series range, featuring a muscular fairing, aerodynamic body panels, and a split-seat configuration. The motorcycle is tipped to receive a comprehensive suite of modern features, including a TFT instrument display with Bluetooth connectivity and Y-Connect integration, navigation support, and a bi-directional quickshifter. Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally Price in India, Specifications and Features.
