The September 4 bank holiday is not applicable across the country. RBI bank holidays are generally notified on a state-wise and city-wise basis, meaning branches in some parts of India will remain shut while banks elsewhere will continue normal operations.
Bank Holiday on September 4: Where Are Banks Closed?
According to the RBI holiday calendar, banks will remain closed for Janmashtami on September 4 in the following states and Union Territory:

- Madhya Pradesh
- Odisha
- Tamil Nadu
- Uttarakhand
- Telangana
- Rajasthan
- Jammu and Kashmir
- Kerala
- West Bengal
- Bihar
- Chhattisgarh

Digital banking services will continue to be available despite the branch closures. Customers can use UPI, internet banking and mobile banking applications for fund transfers, bill payments and other supported transactions.

After the September 4 Janmashtami holiday, banks will observe several more state-specific holidays during the month:
- September 11: Banks in Rajasthan will remain closed due to elections in the jurisdiction of Jaipur Municipal Corporation.
- September 12: Banks in Assam will remain closed for Tirubhav Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva.
- September 14: Banks in Maharashtra, Odisha, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Telangana, Goa and Andhra Pradesh will remain closed for Ganesh Chaturthi/Ganesh Puja/Vinayaka Chaturthi/Varasiddhi Vinayaka Vratham/Chaturthi.
- September 15: Banks in Gujarat, Odisha and Goa will remain closed for Samvatsari (Chaturthi Paksha), Nuakhai and Ganesh Chaturthi (2nd Day).
- September 21: Banks in Assam and Kerala will remain closed for the Janmotsav of Srimanta Sankardeva and Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi.
- September 22: Banks in Jharkhand will remain closed for Karma Puja.
- September 23: Banks in Jammu and Kashmir will remain closed for the Birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji.
- September 25: Banks in Sikkim will remain closed for Indrajatra.
Apart from these holidays, banks also remain closed on Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, subject to the RBI's holiday schedule.
