Speaking to the press, Sonu Mishra revealed that he had initially been excited about the role, believing it would present a favourable narrative. However, his perspective shifted as he understood the project's true intentions. "I was supposed to portray the character of Salman Khan. When I realised that the film had been made to tarnish the name of a superstar and the reputation of Rajasthan's culture, my ethics didn't allow me to be a part of the propaganda against a senior actor," Mishra stated.
He further claimed that the filmmakers never provided him with the full script, and he had not formally signed an agreement for the film. In an earlier interview, Mishra alleged that the proposed contract included clauses requiring him to speak negatively about Salman Khan during promotions, a condition he deemed unethical. Addressing speculation, Mishra also clarified that his decision was not influenced by any threats from the Bishnoi community, emphasising that it is his own community.

The Kala Hiran Controversy and Salman Khan's Legal Battle
Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy, produced by Amit Jani under Jani FireFox Films and directed by Bharat S Shrinate, is reportedly inspired by the 1998 blackbuck poaching case involving Salman Khan. The film's teaser, released on June 12, 2026, features a character named Ayan Khan, accused of killing blackbucks, and introduces a powerful figure named Layan Bishnoi.
Salman Khan has approached the Delhi High Court seeking an interim injunction against the film's production, promotion, and release. His legal team argues that the filmmakers are commercially exploiting his identity without consent, violating his personality and publicity rights, and harming his reputation. Furthermore, they contend that the film's narrative could prejudice the ongoing judicial proceedings related to the blackbuck case, which is still pending before the Rajasthan High Court. ‘Kala Hiran’ Producer Amit Jani Calls Govind Namdev ‘Spineless’, Alleges Salman Khan’s Bodyguard Shera May Have Threatened Actor.
Producer Amit Jani has, in turn, claimed to have received death threats amidst the controversy and publicly tore up a legal notice from Salman Khan's team. The Delhi High Court previously declined urgent relief for Khan, directing his legal team to provide full documentation to the filmmakers before the next hearing. The film's final fate now rests with the court.
