Not only did the Atlantean survive but also wipe out the record set by Wonder Woman at the box office. The latest numbers of box office collection have arrived and Jason Momoa's Aquaman has swum ahead of Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman by raking in a whopping $822 million overall collection. DC's newest superhero standalone collected $16.78 million on New Year's day making it the fourth best feat after Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($34 million), Avatar ($25 million), and Meet the Fockers ($18 million).

With that, Aquaman has also managed to cover the $200 million mark in North America. Needless to say, the film's overall collections in North America have amounted to $216 million approximately. Add this to the $600 million (and more) box office collection raked in at the overseas market and you've got yourself a staggering $822 million at the global box office. With this achievement, Aquaman has officially beat the global total of Wonder Woman who ended at $821 million back in 2017. For the success of the film, Warner Bros did shell out quite a lot of bucks to ensure that the ticket sales are strong and the film is widely acknowledged.

All the hard work seems paid off as the film has managed to not just rake in good money but also bring back the goodwill that DC Comics once honed. Fans are now eager to watch what's next for the DC Universe. Also, this has resulted in good PR for Shazam also, which is slated to release this year. Not to mention the Joker movie will also benefit from the successful streak of Aquaman.
