The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the deadline for free online Aadhaar document updates through the myAadhaar portal till June 14, 2027. The move gives Aadhaar holders another year to upload and update proof of identity and proof of address documents online without paying any fee.

According to UIDAI, the free Aadhaar document update facility, which was earlier scheduled to end in June 2026, will now continue for one more year exclusively on the official myAadhaar portal.

“It has been decided to extend the facility for one more year, i.e., from June 15, 2026, to June 14, 2027. The authority has been encouraging Aadhaar holders, especially those who enrolled many years ago and have not updated their documents recently, to upload fresh documents to maintain accuracy and authenticity in the Aadhaar database.

Along with the deadline extension, UIDAI also announced that the current mAadhaar mobile app will soon be discontinued. Aadhaar holders can complete the document update process online through the myAadhaar portal by following these steps:

  1. Visit the myAadhaar portal and log in using the Aadhaar number and OTP received on the registered mobile number.
  2. Verify the identity and address details displayed on the profile page.
  3. Confirm the information if the details are correct.
  4. Select the proof of identity document from the drop-down menu and upload the file in JPEG, PNG or PDF format. The file size should be below 2 MB.
  5. Upload the proof of address document in the prescribed format.
  6. Submit the request and save the Update Request Number (URN) for tracking purposes.

UIDAI clarified that certain Aadhaar-related changes cannot be completed online and require physical verification at an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre.

Biometric updates, including fingerprints, iris scans and photographs, must be done in person. Similarly, updates related to name, gender, mobile number and date of birth also require Aadhaar holders to visit an enrolment centre for verification.

The extension of the free Aadhaar document update facility is expected to benefit millions of Aadhaar users across India who wish to keep their records updated without incurring additional charges.
