According to police details cited by NDTV, the two women had been close friends since childhood and studied together up to Class 10, often sharing their personal struggles with each other. Investigating officers revealed that Sadhana was married two months ago against her wishes. Unable to adjust, she had been living at her maternal home for the past month. Meanwhile, Kavita was reportedly distressed because her family refused to approve her relationship. On Friday, the pair purchased sulfas tablets from a local market and went to Sadhana's house. Police said Kavita ingested two tablets while Sadhana consumed one. Sadhana’s parents discovered both women unconscious upon returning home later that evening and alerted Kavita’s family before calling an ambulance. Both women were initially taken to a local hospital before Kavita was transferred to a medical facility in Varanasi due to her critical condition, where she succumbed late Friday night. Sadhana’s condition is now reported to be stable, and her official statement has been recorded before a magistrate. Circle Officer (City) Sumit Tripathi stated that Kavita’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and further legal procedures are currently underway.
