Gandhinagar, July 7: Two buffaloes and a calf got "drunk" after drinking liquor-mixed water from a trough at the stable. The "drunk" buffaloes led the authorities to seize 101 bottles of liquor hidden at the stable by its owners - Dinesh Thakor, Ambaram Thakor and Ravi Thakor. The incident took place in Chiloda in Gandhinagar district of Gujarat. 'Operation Bhains Chori' WhatsApp Group Created by Rajasthan Police in Jaipur, Aims to Keep Tab on Buffaloes Theft.
Two buffaloes and a calf of Dinesh Thakor fell sick after which he consulted a veterinary doctor. The animals had stopped eating and were frothing at the mouth. Their condition worsened and the buffaloes began jumping uncontrollably. Another veterinary doctor was then called in and he suspected something was fishy. "The doctor paid a site visit and asked about a weird smell emanating from the water in the trough. He also quizzed about the yellowish colour of water in the container. The Thakor brothers told him that some branches had fallen in the trough, causing discolouration," an officer was quoted by TOI as saying. The veterinary doctor left after prescribing medication and alerted cops.
When the cops raided the stable, they found broken bottles of alcohol in the trough as well as 101 bottles of whiskey, vodka and other liquor worth Rs 35,000 hidden inside the water container and under a heap of fodder. "The animals probably drank the water laced with liquor from the damaged liquor bottles," said the police.
Based on the complaint lodged by assistant sub-inspector Dilipsinh Baldev, a case was registered against the accused Thakor brothers. Meanwhile, PSI of Chiloda police station NG Parmar was conducting further investigation.
